On 21-22 February 2019, Ecorys Brussels organised the ‘Smart Villages Workshop’ in the European Parliament in Brussels.
This event gathered stakeholders from 22 EU countries including members of the European Parliament, representatives from DG AGRI, DG MOVE, DG REGIO and DG CONNECT, local authorities, as well as rural experts and citizens. At this occasion, Ecorys Brussels presented the results of the Pilot Project on Smart Eco-Social Villages, including lessons learnt from the case studies and the definition of a "smart village". This workshop also offered the opportunity to discuss the future of smart villages, notably the success factors that can positively influence the development of rural areas. The diversity of the audience allowed the organisers to steer dialogue from the ground through panel discussions with villages representatives, experts and EU officials.
